Chapter 21 - Second Homecoming and the Liga Filipina


On July 06, 1892, Rizal went to Malacañan Palace to resume his series of interviews with Governor General Eulogio Despujol suddenly showed him some printed leaflets which were allegedly found in Lucia's pillow cases. These incriminatory leaflets were entitled Pobres Frailes under the authorship of Fr. Jacinto. Rizal vigorously denied having those leaflets. Despite his denial and insistent demand for investigation in accordance with the due process of law. He was placed under arrest and escorted to Fort Santiago by Ramon Despujol.

Chapter 21 - Second Homecoming and the Liga Filipina


June 26, 1892, Rizal and Lucia arrived in Manila from Hongkong. In the afternoon, Rizal went to Malacañan Palace to seek audience with the Spanish Governor General, Eulogio Despujol. After his brief interview with the Governer General, He visited his sisters in the city. First was Narcisa, the wife of Antonio Lopez and later Saturnina, the wife of Manuel Hidalgo.

Chapter 18 - Biarritz Vacation and Romance with Nelly Boustead (1891)



Rizal arrived in Biarritz at the beginning of February 1891. He warmly welcomed by the Boustead Family. For an one month vacation, Rizal came to entertain considerable affection for Nelly, a prettier and younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boustead. Antonio Luna, who had previously loved and lost Nelly, encouraged Rizal to woo and marry her. Rizal courted Nellie but unfortunately, their romance beneath the lovely Biarritz moon did not have a happy fairy tale. Rizal's marriage proposal failed for two reasons: he refused to give up his Catholic faith and converted to Protestantism, As Nelly demanded; and Nelly's mother did not like Rizal as a son in law.

CHAPTER 22 - Rizal and Josephine Bracken

Rizal and Josephine fell in love with each other and then after a month, they agreed to marry. but Father Obach refused to marry them without the permission of the Bishop of Cebu. Since no priest  would marry them, Rizal and Josephine held hands together and married themselves before the eyes of God.

CHAPTER 14 - Romance with Gertrude Beckett

 
Gertrude (also called Gettie or Pettie) was the daughter of Rizal's landlord - Charles Beckett who is an organist at St. Paul's Church in London. She fell in love with Rizal. 
When Gettie showed signs of ardor and love, and when Rizal Felt being slowly drawn to her, he left her high and dry without notice and without answering her yearning letters.
